Information on Medicare Open Enrollment

During open enrollment, which is from October 15 to December 7,  you can review and change your Medicare plans based on cost, coverage and your health needs.  There are several options you can select if you are eligible.

1.  You can switch from original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage Plan, or switch from a Medicare Advantage Plan back to original Medicare.

2.  You can join, switch or drop to another Medicare Advantage Plan with or without drug coverage, or add or drop drug coverage.

3.  You can change from one Medicare Advantage Plan to another, or switching between different Medicare Part B plans.  You can also enroll in a Part D plan  which covers prescriptions, if you did not enroll in it when you first became eligible.

4.  You can also join, drop or switch to another Medicare Drug Plan if you are enrolled in original Medicare.

5.  In order to have the changes start on January 1, 2026, the plan enrollment request must be in by December 7, 2025.

6.  For comprehensive information on Medicare including additional enrollment dates for Medicare Advantage Plans and Medigap Plans, visit Medicare.gov.

7. To find out what plans are available in your area, you can look at "Your Medicare and You" Handbook.  Also, talk to a trusted broker or agent, or contact your State health Insurance program for free personalized health insurance counseling. When comparing plans, make sure they cover your medical and prescription needs. Check if your health care providers and pharmacies are covered in the plan.  Also, compare cost of deductibles, monthly premiums, and estimate the cost of medications.

8.  Once you decide, you can enroll online through Medicare.gov/plan-compare, or contact the plan you want directly on their website or by phone.  You can also call Medicare at 1-800-633-4227.
